What are support pedestals?

Support pedestals are a system that enable the laying of porcelain paving or decking substructures without the need for grout, adhesive or cement. Using support pedestals makes for a quick and easy installation, while still proving a robust substructure for your paving or decking.

Support pedestals are nearly always used on flat roofs, balconies, and terraces, and they are increasingly used in gardens.

Please note for higher buildings MESA have a steel pedestal range which are non-combustible and often more appropriate.

What are MESA plastic support pedestals made of?

MESA plastic support pedestals are made from 90% recycled polypropylene and polyethylene, and 10% talc, UV stabilisers and black masterbatch. They are the most intelligent, robust and sustainable paving supports on the market. With an easy twist of the top part of the pedestal, the height can be adjusted to allow for a simple and quick installation. MESA plastic support pedestals are also a low maintenance solution making them the perfect choice for any commercial area or residential installation.

What size do MESA plastic support pedestals come in?

MESA plastic support pedestals come in an adjustable height range of 10-740mm with a head diameter of 140mm, and a base diameter of 200mm. These diameters have been engineered to allow for maximum support while still fitting seamlessly under your paving or decking.

What are the different parts of MESA plastic support pedestals?

The bottom of the MESA plastic support pedestal is known as the base unit. This has a diameter of 200mm for maximum support. The middle part has the extending ring and coupler. This part is only supplied with pedestals exceeding 175mm height. The top part of the pedestal comes with a collar fix. This locks the height adjustments and ensures it does not lower due to vibrations or shock movement.

For the smaller heights of MESA pedestals, this is slightly different. The 10-44mm joist cradles, for example, are made of a cylindrical piece, which come packaged together. The 11-16mm pedestals are made from two very low cylindrical pieces, which also come packaged together.

How much warranty do you offer on your plastic support pedestals?

MESA plastic support pedestals come with 20 years residential and 10 years commercial limited international warranty. Find the full warranty here.

What is the operating temperature for MESA plastic support pedestals?

MESA plastic support pedestals can be used in temperatures between -40°C and 120°C, making them the perfect solution for any climate.

Download the full MESA plastic support pedestals technical specifications here.

How much weight do MESA plastic support pedestals support?

MESA plastic support pedestals have a working load of 1,000kg each. This means that the entire area is able to support over 2.5kN/m2 if required.

Please check with EnviroBuild for higher required load capacities.

Find the MESA installation guide here.

Are MESA plastic support pedestals frost resistant?

Yes, they are. This ensures they can be used in any climate and are perfect for outside use.

How do I know how many pedestals I will need?

In order to work out how much material you would require, we first ask you to take measurements of your proposed area. You can then put these measurements into our easy to use online calculators, which will automatically work out how many pedestals you will require. Alternatively, you can call a member of our team on +353 1 447 0406 to help work out your project quantities.

How do I use MESA plastic support pedestals?

Ensure the foundation area where you will lay your decking or paving is free of all debris, lay out the pedestals along the edge. Adjust the height by turning the pedestal head and lock into place by twisting the collar fix. We recommend using a plumb to check the level of the pedestals. Please note, we recommend leaving a slope of 1:60, depending on the situation, to prevent water from settling. When laying the pedestals, ensure your joists or paving slabs are fully supported. To find out the support span, please check our installation guide. The installation of MESA plastic support pedestals is also highly dependent on whether you’ll be using them to support decking or paving. We thus recommend reading the appropriate section of the installation guide prior to installing your pedestals.

Find the full installation guide here.

Do you provide any pedestal accessories?

We provide various pedestal accessories to ensure your decking and paving is as secure as possible.

The decking pedestal accessories we provide are joist cradles, protective rubber pads (recommended when laying pedestals on flat roofs), slope correctors, and aluminium joists ranging between 20 to 80mm heights. Find them here.

The paving pedestals accessories we provide are slope correctors (2mm or 5mm), protective rubber pads, rubber shims (1mm or 2mm), and spacer tabs (2mm or 5mm). Find them here.

What are non-combustible fire rated support systems?

Almost every component within a system has to be individually tested to EN13501-1, and achieve either A1 or A2, s1, d0 certification. The exception is specifically listed exempted items including, electricals, door frames, membranes, gaskets and fixings. Support systems, however, need to achieve either A1 or A2, s1, d0 certification. There are no longer “system level” fire tests like BS8414 available. Find all our non-combustible solutions here.

ECO CREDENTIALS

MESA Support products are made using 90% recycled Polypropylene from post-consumer waste and any rubber parts are made from 100% recycled rubber. To go further, a high makeup of the box packaging is made from recycled card.

As the plastic supports are non-absorbent, they will last far beyond standard timber products, helping to reduce the wasteful short use and replace cycle. Additionally, as MESA Supports never require treating, no harmful chemicals or labour are required every year. Where possible the products have also been designed to enable them to be recycled back into usable material after their usable life.

To go that bit further, EnviroBuild are proud to donate 10% of profits to sustainable causes, unmatched in the industry. It is our aim that our complete activities are carbon negative and we help create real long term solutions without simply ‘greenwashing’.
