Goat Lees School Decking

Early in 2017, EnviroBuild’s Hyperion Decking product was used to complete an outdoor performance space at Goat Lees Primary School in Kent.
EnviroBuild is a nationwide supplier of sustainable landscaping and construction supplies. Hyperion wood-polymer composite decking and cladding products are made of 60% recycled FSC certified wood and 40% recycled High Density Polyethylene, environmentally gentle bonding agent, additives, and tint. Being low-maintenance, durable and non-slip, it was the perfect choice for schools and nurseries that want to maximise safety and play time.

The Solution

The project used 50 m² of Slate coloured Hyperion Decking from the Frontier range and the Frontier fascia boards were the ideal solution for creating a curved decking design. The decking was installed on 150 x 50 mm tanalised treated timber bearers that were elevated over a subframe connected to 100 x 100 mm tanalised treated posts, which are concreted into the ground.
The additional subframe was used to provide the extra strength required as the decking will be used as a stage for music and arts performances, and as a seating and play area for the children’s play time. The safety barrier used to enclose the highest edge is stainless steel post and clamp glass, which complement the decking colour perfectly.

Customer Feedback

“We were looking for a very particular product to complete our outdoor performance space project and EnviroBuild’s Hyperion decking was the ideal solution. The area will be used by our students during lesson time and break time, and so it was crucial that we chose a product that was non-slip and non-splinter.”
“It was also important that the product was eco-friendly to fit in with the rest of the school buildings. Goat Lees Primary School was built to a high BREEAM spec in 2013 and has won a number of local and county awards for its sustainable design. EnviroBuild’s product is completely in-line with our ethos. Our brand new performance area will be officially opened with an event of music and dance on April 21st 2017, we can’t wait!”
